The Isle of Man is a small island measuring approximately 32 miles by 16 and is situated in the middle of the Irish Sea with 76000 residents. It is a Dependency of the British Crown although it is responsible for writing and administering its own legislation.
Manx Residents
do not vote in UK Parliamentary elections but they do however, elect
members to take their place in Tynwald which incidentally, is the world`s
oldest parliamentary body. The island is divided up into fifteen areas
from which, 24 members are elected to represent the voice of the people.Taxation
laws differ from that of our UK counterparts too. Personal Income Tax
levels currently stand at 10% and along with low crime rates, make the
island a very attractive place to live in more ways than one.
The Isle of Man is also home to the world famous TT Races, kippers and Manx cats. The motorcycling festival attracts visitors to the island from all over the world. The TT has been running since the early 1900s and is still going strong today.
Sport
is at the heart of the local community and the island is home to the
Shoprite Mixed Badminton Leagues amongst others. There are various badminton
competitions but the six mixed leagues are the main competition during
the badminton season. |
