The provision of caring services within the community has

a long history and has always been a function of the

organisation alongside First Aid.

The need is now greater than ever as we live at a time

when the number of those who are vulnerable is

increasing. In response to the changing needs of society,

St. John Ambulance is developing a range of innovative

projects in the field of community care.

The charity provides respite care and training for carers and

in some areas, weekend respite units for the elderly are

run. St. John Ambulance has extended its care programme

to meet the health needs of homeless people in Brighton

and Greater Manchester, with other schemes regularly

being developed.
