ST JOHN AMBULANCE

St. John Ambulance is the UK's leading First Aid; transport

and care charity. Its mission is to provide First Aid and

medical support services; caring services in support of

community needs; and education, training and personal

development to young people.

As the leading First Aid training provider, St. John

Ambulance trains over half a million people each year,

running a range of First Aid and care courses for children,

the general public and the workforce.

St. John Ambulance has about 45,000 volunteers who are

committed to training, caring and saving lives. Every day

they give 10,000 hours of voluntary service to the public

and travel 5,000 miles providing patient care. Every year

200,000 casualties are treated by our volunteers.

In recognition of the increasing numbers of vulnerable

people in society, St. John Ambulance has developed a

network of caring services across the country. Volunteers

are fully trained and give over half a million hours of care in

their local communities each year. The charity runs modular

courses for carers, and a distance learning package, which

is a more flexible approach to training for carers who are

unable to leave the person they care for.

With well over half its volunteers under the age of 18,

St. John Ambulance is a major youth organisation. Through

participation in a structured programme of First Aid and

care activities, young people can develop both their

personal and social skills, and prepare for citizenship.

First Aid and caring services are carried out within a county-

based structure, with the charity's development and co-

ordination of policies undertaken at National Headquarters

in London.
