One Day Event

Sunday 14th October 2007

After a series of postponements and cancellations during the season the Pony Club ended their summer series of competitive events on a high note when they held their annual One Day Event on Sunday 14th October at Ballawilleykilly, Glen Vine (kind permission of Mr & Mrs John Kirkpatrick) The weather was fantastic, the entry was good and the competition provided a most enjoyable day for all those concerned both competitors, spectators and organizers. The standard throughout the competition was high particularly in the dressage where there were some fantastic tests ridden, especially by our senior Pony Club members. Just a couple of accidents marred the day but these were quickly dealt with by our experienced Red Cross team and hopefully both competitors will soon be back in the saddle competing again. Special mention must be made of PC members Tara Adams and Chloe Lace. Tara has enjoyed a most successful season on her new horse Fernhill Footsie and finished in grand style to win the Junior Novice class and Chloe's determination to overcome some niggling problems with her lovely pony Cushag Popstar has eventually reaped her just reward by winning the Junior Prelim. The Pony Club held their Mid Summer showjumping competition at Ballawilleykilley, Glen Vine (kind permission of Mr & Mrs J Kirkpatrick). Although there had been heavy rain overnight, apart from some small areas of wet ground, the going was excellent. The excellent course was designed and built by Hilary Shimmin and was made up of 20 fences some show jumps and some working hunter fences (kind permission of Highton Riding Club). Normal showjumping courses comprise eight to ten fences so this very long course presented a challenge to both horse and rider however all the competitors rose to the occasion and there was some excellent showjumping throughout the day. Tuesday 23rd May 2007

The Pony Club held the last of their cross country events for this season at Croit-ny-Cabbyl, Lonan when they held the team event on Tuesday 22 nd May. It was a close competition especially between the first and second placed teams, The Cabbyl team just pipping the Team Supreme.

The committee would like to thank Peter and Linda Bond for allowing the club to use their land and also for all their extremely hard work setting up the course and arranging for the use of all the extra facilities, the Red Cross for their usual prompt and efficient service and also all the stewards for giving up their time so that we can run the event

Beginners One Day Event

Saturday 12th May 2007

The Pony Club held a Beginners One Day Event at Croit-ny-Cabbyl, Lonan on Saturday 12th May. It was unfortunate that the date clashed with the Youth Games as this precluded some of the members from attending this event but those that did attend were treated to a most enjoyable day out where the event was run exactly to the rules but the fences were suitably sized for those members who have never competed in a One Day Event before. The dressage was judged by Becky Venn and it was amazing to see these young riders memorizing a full dressage test. The showjumping course was built and judged by Cheryl Bond, ably assisted by Tara Adams, and all the competitors completed this successfully with only minor penalties. The highlight for most of the young riders however, was the cross country. Peter Bond had built a fantastic course with the new portable fences purchased by the Club from the Forestry Board but initially designed by Peter from the Country Warehouse. The course looked every inch a Badminton course only scaled down appropriately! Special mention must be made to the winners Aalish Creer and Lewis Exon who both performed excellent dressage tests and gained no further penalties throughout the competition, both finishing on their dressage score and also Isla Curphey as she was the youngest competitor and managed to finish in the rosettes. The full results were as follows:-

Sunday 6th May 2007

Although the going was on the hard side there was an excellent entry for the Hunter Trial on Sunday 6 th May at Croit-ny-Cabbyl, Lonan (kind permission of Mr & Mrs P Bond). Two very talented Pony Club members Phoebe Cross and Tara Adams also competed very successfully to win the Junior and Intermediate classes respectively, Tara winning on her very promising young horse Fernhill Footsie.

Sunday 29th April 2007

Perfect weather helped to make the One Day Event on Sunday 29th April a most enjoyable competition. The event was very well supported and was held at Croit-ny-Cabbyl, Lonan (kind permission of Mr & Mrs P Bond) Peter and Linda Bond and their family had once again worked extremely hard to ensure that the event ran smoothly and this extra attention to detail certainly paid off as the whole day ran like clockwork and there were no serious falls.
