In the days leading up to this event on Sunday 8th May at Oatlands, Santon (kind permission of Mr & Mrs David Shacklock) , there were questions raised, initially it was would the going be too hard after the weeks of sunshine and drying wind and then after the torrential rain on Saturday night would it be too slippery, soft etc. however as it turned out the going proved to be perfect! The course builder Gill Shacklock devoted a lot of time and effort into ensuring that the cross country course was as good as it possibly could be and this was recognized by the enjoyment and praise from the competitors. This annual Spring event was sponsored for the first time by the Mylchreests Group. The Mylchreest family have a long association with Pony Club as Managing Director David Mylchreest's mother Doreen was a committee member when the club was first formed on the island 52 years ago and David and his sister Susan were founder members. The Pony Club is very proud to be the recipients of this long standing support.
David Mylchreest, Managing Director of Mylchreests Group would like to add that we are very pleased to be giving support to the Isle of Man Pony Club as apart from being the Island's Main Dealers for Land Rover and Mitsubishi products, both well known as the must have vehicles to tow horse trailers, we are very keen to be giving direct help to a sport largely participated in by young people.
Mylchreests' sponsorship of the Pony Club follows recently announced support by the Company for the Commonwealth Youth Games, Southern 100, Manx Grand Prix and IOM 4x4 Club. All of these sponsorship programmes have been arranged in celebration of our 50th anniversary, which is in July 2011.

This relatively new event in the Pony Club calendar proved very popular this year. A very big number of entries in the pure dressage and also the combined training meant that there was over fifteen hours of dressage judged at Oatlands Farm (kind permission of Mr & Mrs D Shacklock) on Easter Monday 25 th April. The dressage judges for the day Ann Quigley, Jenifer Gilbey and Laura Callow had a long day with a very varied range of tests to judge, from a very simple walk and trot test to the quite challenging Pony Club Open Eventing Test 2010. The showjumping judge for the day was Angela Whitlow and even though there was a huge entry the day finished on schedule all judges keeping to time throughout the day which was quite an achievement. The standard of dressage was high with regular high performers in this discipline taking the awards. In the Combined Training it was lovely to see so many of the home bred Conrhenny horses/ponies finishing in the ribbons. Hunter Trial
10/04/11
Beautiful weather on Sunday 10 th April, helped to make the first Hunter Trial of the season a most enjoyable event. The new course which had been designed and checked by William Blane FBHS, Head of Pony Club Training UK, and built by Gill, David and Dan Shacklock, rode beautifully with the going on most of the course being nearly perfect. There were some new interesting combinations but these rode well causing few problems. It is most encouraging to see so many junior members taking part with some new names winning the rosettes. Abigail Turner Drewry had an excellent day along with family members Clare and Kevin Drewry, proving that hard work and dedication do pay off. The results were as follows:-
Class 1 Intro Pairs (Level 1) 1st Annabel Ackers (Garfield) & Callum Staley (Midnight Mystery)
2nd Helen Williams (Mally) & Rowena Kelly (Rosehill Rockstar)
3rd Catharine Barham (Farrants Marimba) & Charlotte Barham (The English Rose)

Many thanks also to all the stewards and helpers without their valuable help we could not run and finally to Miles and Matthew for the thankless task of traffic management. Our usual commentator Peter Bond was not able to be present but we wish him a speedy recovery.
The next Pony Club event will be a Cross Country Green Day on Saturday 16 th April, this is an opportunity to try the cross country course but not in a competition. Sessions are available at 10.00am, 11.00am and 12.00noon.
