Manx Harness Club

Results

The Manx harness club held their first event earlier this year. Having been given the use of a fabulous field for the season from Chris Sayle at Ballawhane Stables, Andreas. The club got together to construct 3 permanent hazards, a dressage arena and a cones course, which the members have used to practice with, for the lead up to the event.

The weather was fantastic on the day and we had 7 turnouts attend. Thanks to Zara Barton for judging the dressage and Wendy Kirkpatrick for timing the cones. There were a number of stewards who give up their day to time and judge the hazards, which the competitiors all drove twice, so thank you also to them, it is greatly appreciated.

Nicola Pimbblet from Maughold, and her horse, Archie, won all 3 phases of the competition and became the overall winner, in preparation for her trip to compete at national competitions this summer. Julie Clarke, from Onchan, was second with her one her ponies, which today she drove as a single and put up some very fast times in the hazards. Ken Corlett and Jack were 3rd, the cones were his best phase on this occasion. 4th was Libby Priest with her horse pair, she brought her young horse out for the second time and came 2nd in the Dressage with a creditable score, also in preparation for events on the national circuit this summer.

Margot Dahn and her beautiful pony, Fluffy, put up a great performance to but due to some navigation issues was unfortuately eliminated. Lynda Christian brought out her new young horse for the first time and was pleased with his performance to.

The club is greatful to all the helpers and judges on the day, again to Chris at Ballawhane for the field. We have some other events planned for the rest of season so please check out our website for details.

The British Driving Society week-end was over 29-31 Jan 2010, the club brought over an LHHI instructor and examiner – Caroline Dale-Leech and her husband Peter Dale-Leech. Caroline was here to undertake assessments of the BDS Road Driving Test, and on this occasion we had two members taking there tests Margot Dahn and Ken Corlett who both passed. Joan Lever took her BDS preliminary assessment and Road Driving Test and passed both. It was a very enjoyable week-end, with Caroline talking us through the BDS Intermediate Test and how to compile our individual portfolio's, and then a visit to Mr Walter Gilbey's private carriage collection, where Caroline discussed the intricacies of the various models and the differing mechanics of each. The club would like to thank Caroline for her time and good luck to members taking there future exams.
