A statement by the Isle of Man Equine Photographers
The photographers of Manx Equine events have got together to review their services and have come up with a number of findings and questions which we would like to share with the Island's equestrian community.
Firstly , we would like to extend our thanks to all those who continue to support our activities by purchasing prints or digital files from us. We enjoy the various equine sports events on the Island and want to keep supporting them by providing an imaging service.
In recent times, however, it has come to our attention that many have started illegally downloading watermarked copyrighted images from our sites.
This practice has reached a level which now jeopardises our ability to continue providing our service. There are significant expenses connected with photography even now it is digital i.e. equipment purchase and depreciation costs and paying for website and web space etc.. Some photographers have reported that they operate at a loss to cover some shows – we are paying to come and photograph you! Obviously this cannot continue which has already resulted in fewer shows being covered this year.
We would like to hear what you, as riders, think about this situation and would be grateful for any feedback you can give us. Are the photographic records of your sporting achievements important to you? Do you like viewing the images after a show? Do you have too many images of your endeavours and do not want any more prints? What events do you think are most desirable to have photographed? Do we cover too many events? Etc. etc.
