Inn Cottage is located in the very quiet hamlet of Ellonby which is 7 miles N.W. of the pleasant market town of Penrith ( supermkt. & petrol). This places it within easy reach of Ullswater (steamers 11 miles) & Keswick (Derwentwater 17 miles). Carlisle (cathedral & castle & pedestrianised centre) is 15 miles North. To the S.E. the pretty Lyvennet valley is easily explored (Maulds Meaburn 20 miles) and much closer are the stately homes of Dalemain & Hutton in the Forest, the Rheged Visitor Centre and Greystoke Forest (walks).

A delightful run to the N.E. could include Talkin Tarn (boating) Lanercost Priory (12th. cent.) & the Roman Wall at Birdoswald (Anglian Mead Hall remains) overlooking the R. Irthing. Returning via the South Tyne valley, Alston and Hartside (1,900 ft.) in the North Pennines AONB the total distance is some 80 miles. The nearest inn for bar meals, post office & shop are in Skelton (0.6 mile).

Inn Cottage is 18th. century but has been tastefully modernised to show many original beams and give spacious, cosy, comfortable accommodation. Nearly all the furniture is new pine. Downstairs there are two bedrooms (one double and one twin) a shower room with a w. h. b., w. c. and bidet, a large dining room with a settee, books, games and a radio/cassette player and tapes. Up one step is the fitted kitchen with electric cooker, microwave cooker & electric washer and a utility room with a fridge/freezer and tumble drier. A maximum of four people could dine in the kitchen, using the outdoor furniture. Thus all facilities are downstairs for those who are not fully mobile.

Upstairs there is a large, double bedroom, a pine panelled bathroom with a w. h. b. and w. c. and a very large living room with a pine floor, five windows (two Velux) and a colour T. V. and video recorder. All rooms are heated by night store heaters and/or panel heaters and there is a portable fan heater. The water is heated by an immersion heater. Beds have duvet and mattress covers and blankets and hot water bottles are available. A cot, but not a high chair or play pen, is available. Inn Cottage sleeps a maximum of six people, so five in beds if the cot is used.

No smoking is permitted and the wood burning stove is not suitable for use by visitors. There is no dishwasher and no sheets, pillow cases or towels are provided. There is a garage and parking for a second medium sized car in front of it. Unfortunately, no pets can be allowed at Inn Cottage. The back garden is some 1,500 sq. ft. , two-thirds of which is lawn. A garden seat, outdoor dining furniture and a barbeque are provided. There is a small yard (patio) which is suitable for any outdoor cooking. The telephone is set for local calls only and the garage entrance headroom is just six feet.
