Inclement was the polite word for the weather conditions experienced at the EVNPA versatility show on September 2nd, however competitors proved to be reasonably waterproof and wind resistant! Fortunately the rain cleared after lunch and the championships were held in warm sunshine. The Supreme went to Yasmin Ingham and Cedar Falls who had such a successful day that there was hardly any room left on Archie's neck for all the sashes! The Judges were unable to decide between two contenders for the reserve so Claire Bagshaw and her cracking hunter John Henry and Lisa Nixon riding her Welsh Cob, Derwen Renatta were asked to gallop again. Both really went for it with Derwen Renatta retaining her sparkle despite the mud to take the sash. Twelve year old Caitriona Cox and her pony Newoaks Celebration demonstrated how dressage should be done and achieved the highest dressage percentage of the day by a considerable margin. Handy Hacker Champions were Susie Clague and her part bred connemara gelding, Blue Steel. Troy, as he is known at home has made an incredible recovery from cancer and is one of the very few horses to not only survive but resume competing. Anyone seeing him would never know that he had been so ill and he is an absolute credit to the love and dedication of his owner and the hard working veterinary team. EVNPA WORKING HUNTER & FAMILY SHOW One of the main requirements for the recent EVNPA Bradford & Bingley International Working Hunter Show was a good supply of sun cream - and not just for the riders! Janthia Taylor and her shire mare, Grace jumped an exemplary round over a course which included some interesting fillers and lots of greenery, to win the Senior Rider class from stiff competition. Janice Wood and her handsome gelding, Duncan were on a roll - having won the Senior Intermediate, they were the well deserved winners of the Open Working Hunter Championship. Duncan then went on to retain his title as Horse most suitable for a Day's Hunting - one of the most popular classes of the day, added the Open Championship to his considerable tally of sashes and then made it a hat trick by taking the Supreme. Reserve was Lisa Nixon with Derwen Renatta. Cara Taylor was delighted to win the Family Championship with her home bred Welsh Cob mare, Taymoar Tammy Dancer. Reserve was Charlotte Barham with her versatile Exmoor, Aurelius. Novice Working Hunter champion was Harriet Sheard riding Bobby Kinrade's beautifully marked cob, Crossword Puzzle with Georgia Nicholls-Black and her pony Blaenau Planet reserve. MAY 7, 2006 RESULTS Six year old Georgia Nicholls-Black and her Welsh Section A pony, Blaenau Planet were the well deserved winners of the Supreme Championship at the EVNPA Spring Show held on May 7th. This was no mean feat as Georgia's classes were some of the most hotly contested of the day at a show which featured quality animals throughout. Reserve Supreme was Hannah Hunter's handsome chestnut gelding, Applejack who had an outstanding season last year both here and in the UK. Mountain and Moorland In Hand Champion was Ellen Jone's Royal Manx champion, Hilin Hudolwr with an absolutely delighted Jane Seed and her lovely highland pony, Whitefield Jasper of Ballydougan. Not to be outdone, Ruth Hodgett who keeps her new pony, the attractively marked Two Tone Wizard at the same yard, won the Family In Hand Championship. Another coloured horse, Checkers, owned by Judy Sullivan and shown by Becci Owen took the Ridden Section. Making her debut this year was Jo Brew's young mare, Devil or Angel who won the In Hand Horse Championship from a superb line up. Our next event will be held on June 25th and includes Working Hunter, Mountain & Moorland, Family and Open classes. On July 15th EVNPA members have been invited to compete at the IOM Dressage Group's competition generously sponsored by Coutts Bank.
