When it comes to electronic equipment, Aldridge
Audio is a household name!
Established
over 30 years ago, Aldridges as it has now become known, is the brainchild
of Paul Aldridge. Electronics played an early part during Paul’s
upbringing, he was known to start repairing things for friends and
neighbors whilst still at school.

As soon as
he left school he found employment with Neil Campbell who’s premises were
a few doors away from Aldridges current location. Within a short period of
time he was left to run the service department. Paul was subsequently
offered a position within the former GPO, now known as Manx Telecom, as a
telephone engineer.

Aldridge Audio had its first beginnings at
small leased premises in Royal Avenue in Onchan where Paul worked during
the evenings and at weekends whilst also remaining full time at the GPO.
It was well known that he could be found at
Aldridge Audio late into the evening and still go on to complete a full
days work at the GPO. He would regularly take trips in his car to London
to buy much needed stock for the shop, arriving back on the Island for a
few hours sleep before starting work again.

In 1978 Paul moved into his current premises
on Bucks Road where
the
business really began to grow.
In 1985
Paul left Manx Telecom and dedicated his full time to his own business.
Today,
Aldridges employs 12 staff within its three separate departments, Aldridge
Audio, PC Solutions and ‘Lectrics.

Aldridge Audio –
Few people are aware that Aldridge Audio were the first company
to
sell digital watches, calculators and home computers on the Island
(remember the ZX81?).
Today they
can provide small sound systems for the home or car
or
large sound
systems that are installed in some of the Islands Churches. They also
provide sound and lighting systems for some of the local
nightclubs as well as offering disco equipment
for hire to the general public. Their extensive
range of disco hire equipment has helped many a party or wedding reception
be a great success.
Aldridge Audio also has a
service department where repairs are carried out by their own on site
service engineer.
PC Solutions – Situated
on the first floor above Aldridge Audio, PC Solutions has become a major
player in the computer market on the Island.
